Ambulatory surgery centers provide same-day surgical and diagnostic procedures in a modern, hospital-like setting, its also called outpatient surgery centers.

  • Before your surgery, your surgeon will explain everything you need to prepare, so that you can plan ahead.

    • It is most common to:

      • Refrain from eating or drinking after midnight, the day before surgery

      • Wear comfortable clothing

      • To be accompanied by a relative or close friend – you most likely will be unable to operate a vehicle that day.

  • Recovery times vary dependent on the type of surgery and anesthesia you underwent as well as your natural recovery abilities.

  • It is most likely that you will be able to go home between one to four hours following your surgery.

A nurse from the Capstone Surgery Center will contact you days before your procedure with specific instructions to properly prepare you for your procedure.

When the nurse calls you with your surgery instructions, you may receive your arrival time during your procedure preparation call. If your surgical time changes, a nurse will call you with your new arrival time.

Please bring ID, insurance card and a form of payment (credit card or checkbook) if you have not already made arrangement for both your professional fee and facility fee. If you are an LOP patient, then we should have an LOP on file.

No. By Texas law, a responsible adult (over the age of 18) must take you home. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of your procedure. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home or take a cab home by yourself. Uber, Lyft and other public transportation options are not allowed UNLESS you have another adult traveling with you.

Once you are stable in recovery and a responsible adult is available to drive you home, you will be discharged. Before leaving, you will receive detailed instructions for your care at home, along with contact information should you have any questions or concerns after your procedure.

For your safety, you will be asked not to eat or drink anything before surgery to reduce the risk of complications during anesthesia. It is very important to follow these fasting instructions carefully, as your procedure may need to be postponed if they are not followed.

You may brush your teeth on the morning of surgery, but please avoid swallowing any water. If you have been instructed to take regular medications, you may take them with a small sip of water.

It is recommended that you bring only one person with you to the Surgery Center. Also, if possible, please do not bring young children along.
